THE TOP SECRET AMERICAN AIRLINE YOU NEVER KNEW EXISTED

The Top Secret American Airline You Never Knew Existed In the world there are over 400 airlines and people are able to recognize most of them or have heard their names at least once. But while most of the American Airlines Customer Service are well known to the general public, the name of this top secret airline doesn’t ring a bell to almost anyone. While everyone is used to using services of Southwest, Delta or United, the selected few government workers in Nevada are using the top secret airline nobody knows about. The name of the airline is – wait for it – JANET. Apparently, JANET is probably an acronym for Joint Air Network for Employee Transportation, at least according to Business Insider. But there is no official confirmation to that. The airline name JANET will not pop out on your computer screen while searching for a flight. It is because it is supposed to be a top secret government airline commuter shuttle. In total, there are 11 aircrafts that fly from La...

Why My Recent Air Canada Flight Made Me Think About Safety

How many times has someone been talking to you while we’re doing something else? The mind simply wanders off, then we hear those five dreaded words; Are you listening to me?” Let’s be honest, you weren’t really paying attention; we’ve all done it at one time or another. Usually it’s no big deal, the person repeats themselves…albeit not happily, and we move on. Well what if the information is critical to you or someone else’s safety. Would you pay closer attention? I often think about this during air travel as I look around the cabin of the plane. You see it all the time, the flight attendant is performing the pre-flight safety briefing and you notice several of your fellow passengers not paying attention. Many are on their phones doing their last-minute check of email, some are on their iPads pulling up their in-flight movies, a few are flipping through the in-flight magazines, and others are blissfully listening to music…it seems everyone is doing something other than listeni...

American Airlines Integrates Social Media From Reservation Agents Up To The CEO

American Airlines Customer Service   is an amazing example of the new rules of marketing and public relations at work throughout an organization. Recently, I went to the company’s Dallas headquarters to learn how the airline uses real-time social networking to communicate with customers. In this excerpt from new 6th edition of my book The New Rules of Marketing and PR released this week, I share how important real-time customer communications are for running the entire airline all the way up to the CEO. While on a recent American Airlines flight I was introduced to a well-behaved German shepherd named Kobuk. His handler is Elizabeth Fossett of the nonprofit Maine Search & Rescue Dogs team. She told me how Kobuk had searched for hours to find a 77-year-old woman with diabetes and dementia who had been lost in the woods for several nights: no water, no food, and none of her medications. Kobuk had just traveled across the United States with Fossett to attend a ceremony at...

Here’s Why You Should Be Happy That Air Canada And WestJet Increased Their Bag Fees

This week, Canada’s two major airlines announced that their checked bag fees were increasing to from $25 to $30. Here’s why you should be happy… at least if you want to travel more often. Travelers who check out our flight deals page often know that flying has never been more affordable (as long as you wait for a good deal). That’s how I was able to take about 100 flights in the past 2 years and visit dozens of countries. If traveling more is something that you want to do, you really shouldn’t care that Air Canada Airlines Customer Service and West Jet raised their bag fees. In fact, not only should you not care. You should be happy. I personally wish they would raise them even higher. Why? Experienced travelers don’t check bags. They just don’t. And I’m not even talking about traveling on Ultra Low-Cost Carriers, that’s a whole other topic and that’s for those who really want to travel a lot more (like going to Europe 4 times in the past few months like I did). ...
